Not every tooth issue you face is a dental emergency. It is essential to know what types of dental conditions require immediate care.

Here are some of them:

Broken Tooth

A broken tooth can be very uncomfortable. Patients may feel pain when chewing or biting down. In some cases, a broken tooth may bleed.

Depending on where the fracture is, a dentist may repair the tooth by using a metal crown, a veneer, or a composite filling. If the tooth is chipped or fractured but still intact, a dentist may repair it with a dental bonding treatment.

Lost Filling

If you have a lost filling, you should go to your dentist as soon as possible. If your tooth is left unprotected, your tooth may become sensitive and vulnerable to decay. You may require a root canal if decay has damaged the tooth pulp.

Knocked-Out Tooth

A knocked-out tooth is painful, but quick action can preserve your tooth. If you can easily get to your dentist, call or head in right away.

If you can’t get to the dentist right away, rinse the tooth off and try to put it back in its socket. If you can’t, put the tooth in a cup of milk. If you can’t do either of those things, don’t force the tooth back into the socket.

Toothache

While toothaches are usually the result of cavities, they may also be the result of an abscess. An abscess is an infection of the tooth root and can occur with any type of dental infection.

If pain is severe or accompanied by fever, facial swelling, or swollen lymph nodes, contact your dentist immediately.

Swollen Face or Jaw

A swollen face and jaw that can make it difficult to breathe, speak, or chew is known as a dental emergency. This can be caused by infection or trauma, and it’s a good idea to see a dentist as soon as possible.

The dentist will likely recommend an x-ray to determine the cause and prescribe antibiotics or pain medication.

Bleeding Gums

If you notice that your gums are bleeding, it could be due to gingivitis, an inflammation of the gum tissue caused by plaque and tartar buildup.

When plaque and tartar buildup, the bacteria can move beneath the gum line and cause an infection. That infection causes your gums to bleed. If your gums are bleeding, it’s important to call your dentist for an appointment. Early intervention can prevent gum disease from getting worse.

Call Dream Dental at (725) 234-3106 or schedule an online appointment to visit our dental office at 8685 W Sahara Ave Suite 100, Las Vegas, NV 89117. We will be happy to guide you further.

Dental emergencies always come unannounced! Not every tooth issue you face is a dental emergency.
