Can antidepressants affect success rate of dental implants?

Dr. Ilya Benjamin

Then answer is YES!

A new research by University at Buffalo has shown a direct correlation between antidepressants and implant failure.  In fact, the study suggests that you are four times more likely to have implant failure!

What is the reason? Bone metabolism is affected during the implant healing.  Researchers have concluded that the process of osseointegration is affected by these pharmaceuticals.  There were 74 patients in the study.

Next time you seek dental implants, consider the affects of anti-depressants.

Sincerely,

Dr. Benjamin
